In Fez to Volubilis and Meknes day trip This day begins by crossing a fertile agricultural region: cultures of cereals, pulses, and oil production. We take Zegota Pass and the road enters the forest of eucalyptus plantations of olives and figs. We soon discover a vast plain where the Roman ruins of Volubilis lay. After spending an hour or more to admire the ruins of this roman city from the first century AD, the trip continues towards the holy city of Moulay Idriss to see the panorama and the minaret, which is round and white and decorated with Qur’anic verses in green mosaic.
Next we arrive in Meknès, where there is a magnificent view of the medina. The tour begins with the two monumental gates dating from the seventeenth century, Bab Bardain and Bab el Khmis. We continue exploring the city by the stable, Heri Essouani, and the mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, which was for a long time the only Mosque that non-Muslims could visit in Morocco. Then we depart through the famous Bab el Mansour on the vast Square Hedim. On the other side of the square, is the Museum of Moroccan art, Dar Jamai, which offers a wide variety of handicrafts. You can enjoy a stroll through the medina before returning to Fez.
